Antique 1860's B & W Stoneware Butter Churn 2 gal. Crock Penn Yan NY, Mantell. For your consideration is a rare early American butter churn from New York state. Two gallon salt glazed stoneware crock with wooden lid and dasher. Cobalt blue hand painted under glaze decoration with stylized flower in full bloom.Clearly stamped: "PENN YAN" and the volume "2" (gallons). Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Comes with well fitting wooden lid, seemingly from the period. Most likely from the pottery of James Mantell, circa 1850-60's.
The wooden dasher is newer. PLEASE SCROLL DOWN THE PAGE FOR MORE PHOTOS! Overall 27.5 tall with the dasher; the crock only - 11" tall, 9" handle to handle.
