Unique stoneware jug from H Weston company, Ellenville NY in very good condition. Historical information per the Ellenville Library and Museum, Ellenville NY: The Pottery in Ellenville began on the corner of Market and Warren Street in 1829. It was started by Horace Weston, a Methodist circuit minister.

He had just married a Miss Libby Briggs of this village and was looking for a business to support a wife and family. With the opening of the Delaware and Hudson Canal that year, it seemed a promising venture.

He operated under the name of H. His sons, Horace, Daniel & William joined him in the business under the mark of W. Two of his sons also operated a pottery in Honesdale, Pennsylvania. Between 1849-75 pottery was marked D.

In 1869-70, Daniel operated the pottery with James A Gregg with the markings of Weston and Gregg. This is a great piece of ny history. Blue slip decorated Stylized butterfly. Cobalt features nice and dark. There is one fry mark.
