Nice piece of crockery from Western PA. This is a really cool and I think unique piece - my dad collected Pennsylvania stoneware for a long time when he relocated to Western Pennsylvania. This is from his collection. It is stenciled with cobalt blue that is raised - almost a thick consistency so there is some texture there.

It reads "S K I Nordlinger Liquor Dealers No 19 Diamond Pittsburg PA" Note there is no H on Pittsburgh - history allows us to date this piece to earlier than 1892. In 1892, Nordlinger Liquor moved to 966-968 Liberty Avenue (different from the 19 Diamond address). Jug stands 12 inches tall and about 6-1/4 inches across at base. The glaze is a mottled beige gray pumpkin and the lettering is blue.

Nice lines leaning in a bit towards the bottom. No chips or cracks other than there are a series of consistent chips along the bottom edge that probably were the result of storage on the floor against cement? It is not visible from the side (see pic) but is visible when you turn it over and look at it (see pic). Because of the chipping on the underside you can see the actual original color of the clay because there is no glaze there - it looks red so this may very well also be redware. Weighs almost 6-1/2 pounds unpacked. The item "ANTIQUE Blue Gray Stoneware Crock Jug Nordlinger Liquor Pittsburg PA pre-1892" is in sale since Thursday, June 18, 2020.
