Description : An antique Civil War Era Stoneware Beer, Cider or Ale Bottle with cobalt decoration, 1-Quart capacity, Boston, Massachusetts, c. Wheel-thrown cylindrical form with tapered shoulder and Blob Top finish. Dip-decorated from the entire shoulder and up with bold, vibrant Cobalt. Crisply-impressed at the lower shoulder: FAIRBANKS & BEARD. Beantown brewers and bottlers operated directly out of the Athenæm (Atheneum) on Howard Street.

Rim & Shoulder each have a shallow chip on the reverse side , and there is typical case wear along the (shoulder) perimeter, as shown. Body with some minor soiling/discoloration on the lower left side; it has not been cleaned.
