This 19th century salt-glazed two-gallon stoneware jug is marked with an incised and cobalt-brushed "2" and a lovely cobalt foliate design. The jug presents a bright oatmeal-colored surface with a slightly darker brown tint on the reverse side.
The jug stands 11 inches tall and measures 8 1/2 inches in diameter at its base. The rim of the spout has two minor chips and there is some minor chipping at the base rim, largely invisible when the jug is standing.
The jug also has a child's fingernail-sized chip on the arch of the handle. This is a very handsome jug.
