Description : A decorated Storage Jar or Crock, 1-Gallon capacity, New York State origin, ca. Cylindrical form with eased shoulder and applied lug handles; slightly flared, tooled rim with integrated inner ledge for lid (not present). Impressed on the shoulder with a crisp, cobalt-washed maker's stamp reading, simply: LYONS. Front features a tulip-like Floral design in bold, Brushed Cobalt. Shiny Salt Glaze exterior; Albany Slip interior.
Condition : Very Good to Excellent overall with strong color and desirable form. Minor imperfections are noted below: Small flake in inner rim, wear on inner ledge where a lid would rest, faint line near right handle, small chip and associated hairline on base. No repaired damage or restoration work; very clean inside and out. Early stoneware Jars are very difficult to find in this condition.Displays brilliantly; highly-appropriate for the advanced collector of American Stoneware. See photos for complete details and please consider them as part of the description. Measures approximately 9-1/4H x 6-3/4"H overall with an outer rim diameter of 6-3/8". Note: the inner rim tapers inward; a 5-1/4 diameter lid would be the right size for this New York Jar. Good Luck, thanks for looking, and be sure to bookmark my Auctions, listed and ending daily.
