Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird Decoration, 1-Gallon capacity, New England origin, ca. Wheel-thrown, cylindrical form with eased shoulder, tooled spout and applied strap handle. Tan, Salt-Glazed exterior; Albany Slip interior. Impressed on the upper shoulder with a mostly legible, cobalt-washed stamp reading: F. WRIGHT & SON / STONE WARE / TAUNTON, MASS.
See Internet for further information on the manufactory. Front features a highly-detailed Blue Bird perched on a stylized sprig, artistically executed in bold Slip-Trailed Cobalt. Condition : Some minor rim nicks and a small iron ping (front, lower right), as shown; otherwise Very Good to Excellent with strong color and desirable decoration.
Inherent glaze, surface and firing imperfections noted for descriptive accuracy. No cracks, repairs or restoration work. A fine Taunton Bird; displays brilliantly.
