Description : A small, salt-glazed Stoneware Storage Jar with Cobalt Floral decoration, 1-Gallon capacity, attributed to the pottery of Thompson Harrington, New York State, c. Wheel-thrown, cylindrical form with eased shoulder and slightly flared rim with integrated inner ledge for a lid (not present). Two opposing lug handles with heavy cobalt accents at each terminal. Impressed with a cobalt-washed stamp reading, simply: LYONS with a freehand brushed 1 capacity designation just below. Front features two impressive, Chrysanthemum-like Floral Blossoms with Stems and Foliage in bold, Brushed Cobalt.
Shiny, Salt-Glazed exterior; Albany Slip interior. Inherent glaze and firing imperfections, including faint drying lines at the lower heel, and some areas of surface discoloration, noted for descriptive accuracy. No chips, repairs, restoration work or other excuses. See photos for complete details and close-ups.
