Description : A cobalt decorated Stoneware Serving Pitcher with primitive Floral, 1-Gallon capacity, Lyons, New York origin, c. Fisher or Clark, for example. Wheel-thrown, Semi-Ovoid form with tooled shoulder, rounded rim with pinched spout, and applied strap handle. Tan, Salt-Glazed exterior; Albany Slip interior.
Impressed on the shoulder with a Cobalt-washed stamp reading, simply: LYONS. Front features a large Tulip or similar blossom, artistically executed in bold, Brushed Cobalt. Condition : Good to Very Good overall with attractive form and very strong color. Rim with moderate utilitarian wear from use, including chips, flakes and a tight 1 hairline to the left of the spout.
Body with general surface wear, soiling and a stone ping mid-body, front left. Base with discoloration, moderate wear and perimeter chips from use. A desirable form and Upstate NY mark. Measures 10H x 8W overall, including the handle. The base, body and rim diameters are 6, 7 and 5, respectively.
