Description : An exceptional Stoneware Storage Jar with Brushed Cobalt Floral decorations, 2-Gallon capacity, attributed to Richard C. Wheel-thrown, tall cylindrical form with heavily-tooled shoulder and squared rim. Impressed with a 2 capacity designation on the upper shoulder (see close-up, photo #7). Upper body features four large Horizontal Tulips with graduated foliage, artistically executed in bold Brushed Cobalt.
Shiny, Salt-glazed exterior; Albany or Mineral Slip interior. Condition : Very Good to Excellent overall with very strong color, desirable form and fine decoration. Minor imperfections are noted below. Upper Rim with expected wear (where a lid would rest). Body is exceptionally clean and undamaged with one section of discoloration/staining on the reverse side.
Inherent glaze, surface and firing imperfections, including a small iron ping, noted for descriptive accuracy. Base with typical wear, soiling and remnants of cream-colored paint. There are 5-6 short, age-related hairlines noted at the heel, as shown (see close-ups, photo #11 & #12).See photos for complete details and please consider them as part of the description. 2-Gallon capacity; measures 12-3/4H x 7-1/2W overall.
