Antique Stoneware 2G Jug with Cobalt Floral, Riedinger & Caire, Poughkeepsie, NY
Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, 2-Gallon capacity, Hudson Valley origin, ca. Wheel-thrown, cylindrical form with eased shoulder, tooled spout and applied strap handle. Tan, Salt-Glazed exterior; there is an old cork lodged in mouth. Impressed on the upper shoulder with a dark, cobalt-washed stamp reading: RIEDINGER (&) CAIRE / POUGHKEEPSIE, NY with a capacity designation above. See Internet or Bill Ketchums American Stoneware , p. Front features a large Double Floral decoration on a leafy stem and stylized ground, executed in Brushed Cobalt.
Condition : Rim chips and minor utilitarian wear on the base, as shown; otherwise Very Good. Inherent glaze, surface and firing imperfections noted for descriptive accuracy.
