Description : An antique, pre-Civil War Era Stoneware Beer, Cider or Ale Bottle with heavy cobalt decoration, 1-Quart capacity, Boston, Massachusetts, dated 1852. Wheel-thrown cylindrical form with tapered shoulder and blob top finish.
Dip-decorated from the entire shoulder and up with bold, vibrant Cobalt. Crisply-impressed at the lower shoulder: L. Luke Beard operated directly out of the old Athenæm (Atheneum) on Howard Street.See Internet for further information on the well- respected Beantown Brewer. Condition : Very Good+ to Excellent with strong color and highly sought-after Boston maker. Rim has typical wear and a shallow chip, as shown. Body with some minor surface and glaze imperfections, including a salt drip, front lower left. This is about as Blue as they come!
