Description : An Early American Stoneware Whiskey Jug with primitive Cobalt Floral decoration, 2-Gallon capacity, possibly Nathan Clark, Sr. Wheel-thrown, Highly-Ovoid form with double-incised shoulder, tooled spout and applied strap/pulled handle. Decorated on the body with a large Tulip-like Floral in bold, Brushed Cobalt. Additional brushed cobalt accent about the lower handle terminal.Theres an old cork firmly lodged in the mouth. Condition : Expected wear (small nicks/rubs) on the body/base, and moderate soiling/discoloration noted (left side, mid front, lower), as shown; otherwise in Very Good+, essentially as-made condition with attractive form and decoration. It has not been cleaned.
Note : The surface should lighten a fair amount with a proper cleaning, but there will always be some degree of color variation. Inherent glaze, surface and firing imperfections noted for complete descriptive accuracy. There is also a dark residue noted around spout/cork. See photos for complete details and close-ups.
