Description : A pre-Civil War Stoneware Liquor Cask with Cobalt decorations, 1-Gallon capacity, Pennsylvania origin, c. Wheel-thrown, footed keg form with circular opening on top (for filling) and lower bung opening (for spigot). These so-called Tavern Pigs or Blind Pigs would be used primarily for holding and dispensing traditional PA Dutch liquors, eggnog, etc. Profusely decorated on the body slip-trailed cobalt squiggles, zigzags, petals, crosshatching and other accents highlighting both openings. The photos are probably the best description. Minor imperfections are noted below. Upper opening with a small chip on the rim (see close-up, photo #8).

Body with inherent glaze, surface and firing imperfections, including scars, stackmarks, soiling, etc, as shown. Some minor fry noted on areas of heaviest cobalt. Lower opening with slight wear on the inner rim.
