Description : An impressive, pre-Civil War Stoneware Beer Bottle with cobalt-highlighted brewer advertising, Northeastern US origin, dated 1859. Wheel-thrown cylindrical form with tapered shoulder and oversized Blob Top finish.
Impressed on the shoulder with very crisp cobalt-washed stamp reading: A. Attractive caramel colored, Salt-Glazed exterior; Albany Slip interior. Condition : Very Good to Excellent overall with nice color and very strong stamp impressions. Quite remarkable, actually, for a 160 year-old Stoneware Beer. Keep in mind these bottles were re-used/refilled multiple times; perhaps on weekly a weekly basis.
Minor imperfections are noted below. Expect utilitarian wear on the upper rim and base, as shown. Minor case wear on the lower shoulder.
