A commanding Civil War Era Stoneware Pickle Jar or Churn with Cobalt Floral decoration, 6-Gallon capacity, Upstate New York origin, c. Wheel-thrown, cylindrical form with eased shoulder, tooled rim with integrated inner ledge (for a lid) and applied lug handles. Impressed on the upper shoulder with a cobalt-washed stamp : FORT EDWARD STONE WARE CO.

With a 6 capacity designation below. When Michael Mory joined the firm in March 1862, the name was changed to Satterlee & Mory.

Russell was a lumber dealer who ended up marrying Georges daughter, Margaret. He was likely one of the wood suppliers for Satterlees Ft. See Internet for further information. Decorated on the body with an Floral Bouquet consisting of plumes, blossoms, foliage and sprays; artistically executed in the bold, Slip-Trailed Cobalt.

Shiny, Salt-Glazed exterior; Albany Slip interior. Condition : Excellent overall with strong color, scarce Fort Edward makers mark and desirable decoration. I have rarely seen Jars of this capacity without significant damage, cracks, repairs, etc. Minor imperfections are noted below. Inner Rim with slight wear on the ledge perimeter (where a lid would rest).

Body is Excellent to Nearly Mint with inherent glaze, surface and firing imperfections, in-the-making. Handle , right side, with a shallow glaze flake.

Base with wear and some expected perimeter chips, as shown. Super clean inside and out; this commercial-size Jar has seen very little, if any, use. No cracks, repaired damage, or other excuses. See photos for complete details and close-ups.

Please consider them as part of the description. Measures approximately 16-1/4H x 11-3/4W overall. The inner and outer rim diameters are 7-1/2 and 8-3/4, respectively. Good Luck, thanks for watching, and be sure to bookmark my Auctions, listed and ending daily.
