Description : A 19thC Stoneware Fruit or Canning Jar with cobalt-stenciled maker advertising, Greene County, Pennsylvania origin, c. Wheel-thrown, tapered form with tooled shoulder, rounded outer rim and integrated Wax Sealer inner rim.
Salt-glazed exterior; Albany or Mineral Slip interior. Decorated with an elaborate cobalt stencil reading: HAMILTON / & / JONES / GREENSBORO.
Condition : Very Good++ to Excellent overall with strong color, crisp stencil, desirable size and highly sought-after maker. Minor imperfections are noted below. Rim with minor wear along the upper and inner edge including rubs and shallow flakes, as shown. Body is exceptionally clean and undamaged. Just one small area of discoloration below the stencil. No cracks, repaired damage or restoration work. Inherent glaze, surface and firing imperfections noted for descriptive accuracy.This would technically be considered a 3/4 Gallon (12 Cups).
