An impressive Slip-Decorated Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Decorations, 3-Gallon capacity, New England origin, ca. Wheel-thrown, cylindrical form with eased shoulder and applied strap handle.Impressed on the shoulder with a cobalt-washed stamp: F. Front features a large Tornado flanked by two dotted Floral Plumes, executed in very bold, Slip-Trailed and Brushed Cobalt. Shiny, Salt-Glazed exterior; Albany Slip interior. Condition : Expected wear on the base and some minor surface staining, as shown; otherwise in Excellent to Near Mint condition with very strong color. This Norton Beauty survives in remarkable as-made condition. The spout is perfect and there is absolutely no fry on the decoration. Typical surface, glaze and firing imperfections (stack marks, scars, etc) noted for descriptive accuracy. No chips, cracks, repairs, restoration work or other excuses.
