Unique handle on this fine pottery piece. This salt glazed item appears to be a canning jar.
A tin lid was placed over the inner rim and hot wax poured around it to seal it commonly referred to as a wax sealer. The chips around the rim may be a result of prying off the lid.
Probably dates to around 1890 +/- a few years. DATE : This family made these crocks in mid to late19th Century. CONDITION : Few chips around the edge.
