XLNT Antique 5 Gallon Midwestern Stoneware Churn, Salt Glaze, Cobalt Flower, Lid
This is an excellent original antique (mid 19th century) 5 gallon stoneware churn with salt glaze and cobalt flower on the front that was probably done by a midwestern maker. I don't know who the maker is. Condition is excellent; there is one chip on the rim that may or may not be from manufacture, and the other visible flaws happened before or during firing in the kiln (there is a discolored patch in the glaze on the lower right side that happened in the kiln and what appears to be a crack next to it which is actually a sealed seam that happened during manufacture). Those areas can be seen close up in the last photo. There is no other visible damage to the churn, it is clean and shiny, and displays beautifully. The lid might not be original to the churn but is a good fit and is in very good condition with only one chip on the bottom edge and no cracks. The churn measures 17 1/4" H x about 10" in diameter.
