For sale is this early Americana Stoneware Wax Sealer Jar with 4 Cobalt Blue HORIZONTAL STRIPES. I believe it is from Western PA, probably Greensboro area. It is primitively made and has great character. I believe this jar is from the mid to late 1800's.
8-1/4" high from base to top rim x 5-1/2" dia. NOTE: The last two photos were taken indoors.
It has significant chipping around the inside of the top outer rim and minor chipping on the top inner rim (you can tell it was used back in the day). There is a chip approx. 5/8 long on the bottom rim / edge.
There is also a tight hairline crack on the top rim ONLY - it stops as the vertical face takes shape. The cobalt blue stripes have some skips and the bottom cobalt strip is lighter in color than the top three stripes. There is also some staining (brown appearance) on the left side of the striping - I have not tried to remove the staining.
CRACKS, HAIRLINE CRACKS, OR REPAIRS. This piece is in very good condition especially considering it's possibly over 150 years old and was used as a utilitarian piece on a daily basis. It has the usual manufacturing characteristics found on OLD salt glaze stoneware i. Pits, pops, glaze skips, rubs, runs, bubbles, glaze separations, staining, crazing, and wrinkles & lines in glaze.
PLEASE VIEW PICTURES CLOSELY FOR DETAILS & CONDITION AS THEY ARE PART OF THE DESCRIPTION. Guaranteed OLD & AUTHENTIC and NOT A REPRODUCTION.
