This is an original antique (late 19th century) 4 gallon stoneware butter churn with wood lid and plunger. The churn has salt glaze on the outside, Albany slip glaze on the inside, and a beautiful cobalt flower decoration on the front and accents on the handles. Condition is good and the entire piece is solid and sturdy, but there are two cracks one on the top back edge that wraps around to the side, and a crow's foot on the bottom edge of the same side. The crack at the top appears to have glue in it. There are a few tiny flakes in the glaze on the lip inside the top of the churn. There is some crazing to the glaze elsewhere, The lid is very old and the plunger has obvious signs of heavy use, so I believe it is original (or at least from the correct period). The churn measures 17" H (42 with the plunger handle included) x about 10" in diameter.
