Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral decoration and maker advertising, approximate 1-Gallon capacity, Pennsylvania, c. Wheel-thrown, Semi-Ovoid form with eased shoulder, tooled spout and applied strap handle. Impressed below the rim with cobalt-washed stamp reading: COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG. This the mark of John Cowden and Isaac Wilcox, active in Dauphin County from 1863 to about 1880.

In addition, upper & lower handle terminals are highlighted with cobalt accents. Shiny, Salt-glazed exterior; Albany or Mineral Slip interior. Condition : Very Good to Excellent overall with exceptional decoration, charming size and desirable makers mark. Minor imperfections are noted below. Spout with expected wear including two shallow flakes, as shown. Body is exceptionally clean; some discoloration noted on lower reverse; and some unglazed stack marks, in-the-making, near the heel. Note : Theres a seam visible at the lower handle terminal; no evidence of any repairs or restoration work. See photos for complete details and close-ups.
