Description : An Early American Storage Jar with cobalt-stenciled maker advertising, 2-Gallon capacity, Greene County, Pennsylvania origin, c. Wheel-thrown, cylindrical form with tooled shoulder and rounded rim. Salt-glazed exterior; Albany or Mineral Slip interior. Decorated cobalt advertising stencil reading: JAS. With additional foliate accents, bold freehand stripes & squiggles and a 2 capacity designation. Condition : Very Good++ overall with strong color, crisp stencil, desirable size and highly sought-after maker. Rim has expected wear consistent with age and use; and one thumb-size chip, as shown. Body is exceptionally clean and undamaged with a few minor areas of discoloration. No cracks, repaired damage or restoration work. Inherent glaze, surface and firing imperfections noted for descriptive accuracy. See photos for complete details and close-ups.
