An exceptional, decorated Stoneware Jug with A+ Cobalt Floral decoration and Dauphin County maker advertising, approximate 1-Gallon capacity, Pennsylvania, c. Wheel-thrown, slightly bulbous form with eased shoulder, tooled spout and applied strap handle.

Impressed below the rim with cobalt-washed stamp reading: COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG. This the mark of John Cowden and Isaac Wilcox, active from about 1863 to roughly 1880. See Internet for further information on this well-respected partnership. Front features a large horizontal Tulip Decoration artistically-executed in super bold, Brushed Cobalt.

In addition, upper & lower handle terminals are highlighted with cobalt accents. Theres an old cork is firmly lodged in the mouth. Salt-glazed exterior; presumably Albany or Mineral Slip interior. This Jug survives in remarkable, essentially as-made condition with exceptional color, charming size and desirable makers mark. Some minor imperfections to note: There is one small glaze flake on the upper handle terminal, and a tiny flea bite on the upper spout edge, right side. Also, the makers stamp is not completely legible on the extreme left and right edges (due to the shoulder curvature). No cracks, repaired damage, restoration work or other excuses.

Displays brilliantly; highly-appropriate for any C&W enthusiast, especially if condition is of utmost importance to your collection. See photos for complete details and close-ups. Please consider them as part of the description.

Highly sought-after 1-Gallon capacity; measures only 11-1/2H x 7W overall with base diameter of 6-1/2. Good Luck, thanks for watching, and be sure to bookmark my Auctions, listed and ending daily.
