Cobalt Blue "Baltimore Clover pattern" Iron Clay Crock Maryland Stoneware Pot Jar. 8 1/2" tall X 8" opening X 6 bottom. This was dug from a Victorian 1850- 1860's dump... A very crude, complete example of the salt-glazed utility jar. There are 5 cobalt "Baltimore clovers", and the blue glazing is so thick and complete, that they look 3-D.

Tooling evident throughout the jar. Iron pieces throughout the clay.

Aging is visible, such as light crazing. There is one hairline extending from the top of the jar downward about 3 inches. Opposite side is a hairline from the bottom extending up about 2 inches - both are very tight and surface only - NOT completely through the piece. This is a very fine example of a 166 year old utilitarian vessel. Most likely it held meat since there was no refrigeration back in them days.

A pudding cloth and string would have covered the jar. The item "Cobalt Blue Baltimore Clover pattern Iron Clay Maryland Stoneware jar Crock" is in sale since Saturday, March 27, 2021.
