Pictured is an early salt glazed stoneware jar from Rices Landing, Pennsylvania offered for sale. The freehand decorated jar incorporates the traditional designs by the maker, specifically, tulips & scrolled flourishes. It's highlighted & accented with a total of eight (8) freehand stripes & squiggly lines near the rim, midsection & base. The lower base has a large freehand "5" with flourishes on each side.It's incised with a small "5" below the rim on both sides and large lug handles support the jar. It measures 15 1/2" in height, 10 3/4" in base diameter, & dates from the mid. Amazingly, it's in excellent condition with no nicks, damage or repairs whatsoever, likewise no wear or roughness.
